From The Family Alwood by Terry Klaus, June 1991:
Harry Carl Alwood was born August 4. 1880. in Manchester, Tennessee. He died in Sedro Woolley, Washington September 14, 1965. from a heart attack. Harry was 18 years old when his family moved from Tennessee and headed north for Canada. He was 25 years old when he married the young lady from England, Hilda Smith on August 4. 1915. They were celebrating their 50 years together when Harry had a heart attack, and died a few weeks later. They homesteaded in Edgerton for almost ten years, had five children, and then moved down to Washington State. Harry had many hats, he was a farmer, a carpenter, and he had a chicken/fryer business in Sedro Woolley. I remember the home at 308 Reed Street, with fondmemories. We could skip down the ally a couple of blocks to the fryer business, and we could pick cherries, apples, black berries, tomatoes, whatever was ripe, we could have. There was the BIG weeping willow tree at the side of the house. and of course the rose garden of Harry's and the lovely dahlia's too, in all colors. Harry was a big reader of mystery books, they had a library with a big collection of books. Harry was also a stamp collector, which became a hobby with some of his children and grandchildren. He also made model cars.

Grandpa Harry wasn't so bad in the kitchen either, he knew how to fix ahearty breakfast. It was a joy to come down stairs, get warm by the stove in the kitchen and then to share breakfast with Grandpa and Grandma, you had everything you could want! It was part of their retirement years that Harry and Hilda were "care-takers' at a logging camp, and they spent their weekends making big meals for the men who were in camp and for any of us wandering relatives. Harry inspired my love for music, as 1 can remember sitting on his lap, right next to his old phonograph player/radio, listening to his 78's, the big band music and marches of John Phillip Sousa. We also listened to the old Lone Ranger radio programs. Harry would be smoking his pipe of course.
