"It feels good, " said mayor-elect David Pocock of his election to thehighest office in the city.
"All the waiting, wondering and suspense are cleared up now. I havegotten lots of handshakes and congratulations. It has been all positivestrokes." he said happily His students at the high school reactedpositively to his candidacy, and showed considerable interest throughouthis campaign. The excitement has spilled over to his home life. His wife, who teaches at
Lincoln School in Mt.. Vernon, has been very supportive. Other teachersat her school followed the campaign closely, and now claim that they havethe first lady of Burlington at their school, he joked. About running thecity, however, he is completely serious. "I want to see what kind ofprogram I can put together. The streets problem is definitely my numberone concern. Every penny we can pinch should be put into streets. SkagitStreet is on of my priorities. If we can get to it within the next year.it would be kind of nice to get the kids from Lucille Umbarger Schoolinvolved in it. If they are interested in the City business, it doesn'thurt to help them
